History of Texarkana

The growth of Texarkana was spurred by the arrival of the Cairo and Fulton Railroad in 1873 and the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1874. These railroads made Texarkana an important regional center for trade and commerce. The city’s population grew from just over 1,000 in 1880 to nearly 8,000 by 1900.
