Genoa is a city in Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 5,194 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County.
The city was established in 1857 by settlers from Genoa, New York and was named after that city. Many of the early settlers were of Italian descent.
The city is home to the Genoa Indian School, a Native American boarding school founded in 1884. The school served as a model for other Indian boarding schools across the United States.
The Genoa Chamber of Commerce sponsors an annual Lakefront Days celebration in July. The event includes a parade, car show, fireworks, and a 5kilometer run/walk.
The city is also home to the Genoa National Fish Hatchery, which is the largest fish hatchery in the United States. The hatchery raises over five million trout each year.

The city of Genoa, Nebraska in the United States has a long and varied history. First founded as a trading post by John Evans in 1854, the city has seen its share of ups and downs over the years. The town grew steadily in the early years, with the population reaching 1,000 by 1869. But after the transcontinental railroad bypassed Genoa in favor of a more southerly route, the city began to decline. In 1882, a fire ripped through the city, destroying much of the downtown area.
But Genoa bounced back, and by the turn of the century had regained its place as a thriving community. The city was home to a large Italian immigrant population, and many of the businesses in the downtown area reflected this. From restaurants to grocery stores, the city had a distinctly Italian flavor. This came to an abrupt end in World War II, when many of the ItalianAmerican residents were sent to internment camps.
After the war, the city slowly began to rebuild. New businesses opened up and the downtown area slowly regained its former vitality.
