History of Buena Park
Buena Park is a city located in northwestern Orange County, California. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 80,393. It is the location of several tourist attractions, including Knott’s Berry Farm, one of the oldest theme parks in the country. The city is also home to the Los Angeles Angels baseball team’s training facility.
The area that is now Buena Park was originally inhabited by the Gabrieleno people. The Gabrieleno were a group of native people who lived in the Los Angeles Basin and coastal Southern California. The name “Buena Park” comes from the fact that the land was formerly part of the Rancho La Sierra de Buena Vista, a Mexican land grant. The rancho was created in 1845 by Mexican governor Pio Pico.
In 1855, American settlers John and William McFadden bought the rancho from Pico and built a hotel on the property. The hotel became a popular stop for stagecoaches traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1885, the Santa Fe Railway built a track through the area, which led to an increase in tourism.
