Situated in the Chiltern Hills, the picturesque market town of Tring is located in the county of Hertfordshire in England. Despite its small size, the town offers a range of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy.

TheNatural History Museum at Tring is a mustsee for any animal lover. Home to over 250,000 specimens, the museum was founded in the 19th century by Lionel Walter Rothschild. Today, the museum houses lions, tigers, zebras and many more exotic animals, as well as an interactive Discovery Centre where children can learn about the natural world.

For those interested in architecture, Tring Park Mansion is a striking example of 17th century Jacobean architecture. The mansion is now home to Dacorum College of Further Education and is open to the public during college open days and special events.

Just outside of the town centre is Tring Reservoirs, a spectacular spot for walks, picnics and wildlife watching. The three reservoirs are set in 150 acres of countryside and offer stunning views across the valley. Visitors can also learn about the history of the reservoirs at the visitor centre.

History of Tring

Tring is a small market town in Hertfordshire, England, situated on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, 26 miles (42 km) northwest of London. It is in the district of Dacorum and borough of Hertsmere. Tring was granted a charter by King Henry I in 1130, making it one of the oldest towns in Britain. The charter was put into effect in a ceremony on 23rd December 1130. In the Domesday Book of 1086, Tring is recorded as ‘Trenchenga’.

The town has a wide range of shops and amenities including a twiceweekly covered market and a variety of schools. It was the home of Mannington Mills, the largest producer of carpet in the UK until its closure in 2007. on 1 April 2009, the town’s (and borough’s) urban area was extended to include the former civil parish of Tringford, which had been separated from Tring since 1934. The Local Government Association placed Tring in the top 100 of places to live in Britain in both 2006 and 2007, and in the top 50 in 2008.
