History of Buntingford

Buntingford is a historic market town in Hertfordshire, England. It is situated 18 miles north of London and 8 miles south west of Bishop’s Stortford. The town has a population of 5,525 (2011 census).

The town is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a small settlement with a population of just over 200. The main industry at that time was agriculture, but there was also some pottery and brewing taking place.
