Plainview is a city located in Texas, United States. As of 2019, the population was 22,044. The town was founded in 1887 as a stop on the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. It was originally named Plainview Station, but the name was later changed to Plainview. The town originally had a population of just over 200 people. Agriculture has always been a big part of Plainview’s economy. The city is located in the Llano Estacado, which is known for its wheat production. The first wheat crop was harvested in 1888. The city also became a major producer of cotton. In the early 1900s, Plainview was known as the “Watermelon Capital of the World.” Every year, the city would hold a watermelon festival.
