Mobile is a historic city located on the Mobile River in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Alabama. The city has a population of 194,288 according to the 2019 census estimates. The city of Mobile was founded in 1702 by French colonists. It was the capital of French Louisiana from 1702 to 1711. During this time, it was referred to as the “Paris of the New World”. Mobile then served as the capital of British West Florida from 1766 to 1781. After the United States acquired the territory in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, Mobile became an American city. History of Mobile

The city of Mobile was founded in 1702 by French colonists. The city was originally part of the French colony of Louisiana and was named after the FrenchMobile tribe that lived in the area. The city served as the capital of Louisiana from 1702 until 1712 when the capital was moved to New Orleans. Mobile was captured by the British during the Seven Years’ War in 1763 and then regained by the French in 1780. It was then sold to the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
