Sights in Neenah

Neenah is a city in the Fox River Valley region of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 24,858 at the 2010 census. It is located in both Winnebago County and Calumet County. The city is located adjacent to Menasha, in the town of Neenah. The two cities are connected by several bridges and a causeway. The city’s public schools are operated by the Neenah Joint School District.

The city is adjacent to Lake Winnebago and is home to several small parks, including Riverside Park, Echo attraction Park, and Doty Park. The downtown area is home to many shops and restaurants.

Neenah is also home to the BergstromMahler Museum of Glass, which houses the world’s largest collection of glass art. The museum is located in the historic warehouse district on the west side of the city.

The first settlers of Neenah were French Canadian fur traders who arrived in the area in the late 18th century. The first permanent settler was John Doty, who arrived in 1818 and built a log cabin on the east bank of the Fox River. The city was formally established in 1857 and incorporated as a village in 1869. The city was named for the Menominee chief, Nessanee.

During the Civil War, the Union Army set up a prisoner of war camp in Neenah. The town was also astop on the Underground Railroad.

In the early 20th century, the city became a major papermaking center. The Acme Paper Company was founded here in 1903, and theTriCity Paper Company was established in 1912. The city’s population grew rapidly during this time.

The paper industry began to decline in the late 20th century, and the city’s economy diversified. Several healthcare and technology companies have established operations in Neenah in recent years.

History of Neenah

In 1836, the Menominee Indians ceded the land around Lake Winnebago to the United States government. The federal government then sold this land to settlers. one of these settlers was Hiram Smith, who built a log cabin and started a farm near the Fox River. In 1848, Smith built a sawmill and a gristmill, which attracted more settlers to the area.

In 1850, the village of Neenah was platted and Hiram Smith was elected as its first president. The village slowly grew over the next few years. In 1856, the Wisconsin Legislature incorporated the village as a city.

Neenah continued to grow in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It became known for its paper mills and other factories. The city also became a regional center for healthcare.

Today, Neenah is a vibrant community with a strong economy and a rich history.
