History of Little Falls

Little Falls, Minnesota is a city in Morrison County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,343 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Morrison County.

The city was founded in 1848 by Colonel George C. Wood, who built a sawmill at the falls of the Mississippi River. Little Falls is named for these waterfalls. The town grew rapidly and became the county seat in 1851.

The Minnesota State Legislature created the village of Little Falls in 1856. The village was incorporated as a city in 1901.
