Lake City is home to approximately 12,000 people and is the county seat of Columbia County, Florida. The city was named after the many lakes located nearby, including Lake DeSoto, Lake Isabella, and Alligator Lake. Lake City is perhaps best known for being the site of the Battle of Olustee, which was the largest and bloodiest engagement of the American Civil War in Florida.

History of Lake City
Lake City is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,764 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Missaukee County. The city is on the border of Lake and Wexford counties, at the northeast corner of Missaukee County.
The area was first settled in 1854 by John C. Fremont. The community was first called Fremont, then Frankfort, and finally Lake City. The city was incorporated in 1865.
Lake City owes much of its development to the lumber industry. The first sawmill was built in 1855, and the community became a hub for the logging industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of the city’s historic buildings were constructed during this time, including the Missaukee County Courthouse, which was built in 1901.
The population of Lake City peaked in 1910 at about 10,000. The city went through a period of decline in the mid20th century, as the lumber industry declined and many residents left for other communities. The population began to rebound in the 1990s, and has continued to grow in recent years.
Today, Lake City is a thriving community with a vibrant downtown, an active arts scene, and a variety of businesses and industries. The city’s motto is “Where Tradition Meets Progress.”
