Jasper is a city in central Alberta, about 485 km (300 mi) northwest of Edmonton, Alberta and about 630 km (390 mi) northeast of Calgary, Alberta. It is the commercial center of Jasper National Park, the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. As of the 2016 census, Jasper had a population of 4,054 living in 2,014 of its 2,167 total private dwellings.
The history of Jasper begins with the nomadic indigenous people who inhabit the area. These people settled in the parklands of the Canadian Rockies in the 1800s. History of Jasper
Nestled in the heart of the Ozarks, Jasper is a small city with a rich history. Founded in 1826, Jasper was originally named after William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero. Jasper was an early settlement in Arkansas and quickly became an important stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. In 1872, the city was officially incorporated.
