History of Hallandale Beach
The city of Hallandale Beach was first settled in the late 1800s. A post office was established in 1893 and the city was incorporated in 1927. The city’s name is derived from the first settlers, who were from the Hallandale area of Scotland.
One of the first businesses in the city was a hotel built by William D. Dee in 1896. The hotel was located on the site of the present day Diplomat Hotel. Dee’s hotel was destroyed by a hurricane in 1911 and he rebuilt it. The new hotel was also destroyed by a hurricane in 1926.
