History of Berea
The city of Berea is located in Madison County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 14,082 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Madison County. The city was founded by Aaron and Nancy Crawford, who came to Kentucky from Virginia in 1786. They named the city after the biblical town Berea in the Book of Acts. The town was formally established in 1793.
Berea was the first town in Kentucky to be incorporated by the state legislature. Because of its location in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Berea was initially a frontier settlement.
