Greensburg is home to a number of large and colorful murals. The most iconic is the “Greetings from Greensburg” mural, located on the side of a building on Main Street. This mural was painted in 2015 by local artist Bret Rockwell and features a number of iconic images from Greensburg’s past, including an oldtimey car, a train, and the city’s courthouse.
There are a number of other murals located throughout the city, including a beautiful naturethemed mural on the back of the Greensburg Garden & Flower Shop and a large “Welcome to Greensburg” mural on the side of a building on West Otterman Street.

Historic Downtown
Greensburg’s Historic Downtown is full of charming shops and restaurants, making it the perfect place to spend a day browsing and exploring. The BakerBushnell Greenway is a twomile walking and biking trail that runs through the heart of Greensburg. History of Greensburg
Greensburg is a city in and the county seat of Decatur County, Indiana, United States. The population was 11,492 at the 2010 census.
The city of Greensburg, Indiana was platted in 1822. It was named for American Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene. The first settlers were William and Nancy Fulton and their family who arrived in 1821. They built a log cabin which still stands today.
In 1822, the Indiana General Assembly authorized the Decatur County commissioners to locate the county seat at or near the center of the county. Greensburg beat out longtime favorite New Point because it was more centrally located within the county.
Greensburg was officially founded in 1823 and quickly became the economic and social center of Decatur County. The courthouse and jail were built in 1824, and the first school opened in 1825.
The first church was organized in 1826, and the first newspaper began publication in 1827. The first bank opened in 1831, and the first library was founded in 1834.
Greensburg rapidly grew in the early 1800s, due in part to its location on the National Road (now US 40). The road, which connected Baltimore and Vandalia, Illinois, ran through Greensburg, making it a convenient stop for travelers.
In 1837, the Indiana Legislature designated Greensburg as a town, and in 1854, it was officially incorporated as a city.
During the Civil War, Greensburg served as a base for Union soldiers. The town was also the site of a Confederate hospital.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Greensburg experienced a period of growth and prosperity. New businesses and factories were established, and the city’s population increased.
The first public library in Indiana opened in Greensburg in 1893. The library later became the Decatur County Public Library.
In Recent years, Greensburg has undergone a period of revitalization. New businesses have opened downtown, and historic buildings have been restored. The city is also home to a growing arts community.
