Burscough is a civil parish and town in the borough of West Lancashire, England. The parish had a population of 10,654 people at the 2011 census.
The name Burscough is derived from the Old English words burh and scof, meaning “fortified town on a spur of land”.

The manor later passed to theboteler family, and in 1311 it was bought by Sir Thomas Fleetwood.
Sir Thomas’s grandson, Sir Richard Fleetwood, built a new manor house at Burscough in 1488. This was replaced by a Tudorstyle mansion in 1560, which was itself replaced by a Georgian mansion in 1750.
The Georgian mansion was demolished in 1857, and the present Burscough Hall was built on the site.
Burscough was a market town in the Middle Ages, and it still has a weekly market today. It was also an important stop on the Lancaster Canal, opened in 1797, with a large warehouse and wharf.
