Westport is a coastal town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States, of which it is the namesake. The town is located along Long Island Sound within Connecticut’s Gold Coast region in the southwestern corner of the state. It is bordered by the cities of Norwalk and Wilton to the north and by the town of Fairfield to the east. The town also has a border with the town of Weston to the west.
As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 26,391.
The town is served by Interstate 95 and MetroNorth Railroad.

History of Westport
Westport was founded in 1835 by proslavery settlers from Kentucky and Missouri. The town was located in the disputed border area between the free state of Illinois and the slave state of Missouri. Its founders hoped that Westport would become a major port city on the Missouri River, but the city failed to attract enough residents and businesses to make this a reality. In 1839, the town was renamed Kansas City, after the nearby Kanza Native American tribe.
During the American Civil War, Kansas City was a major stronghold of Union sympathizers, and was the site of several key military events. In 1862, the Battle of Westport was fought in the city, resulting in a Union victory. This was followed by the Union occupation of the city, which lasted until the end of the war.
In the years after the Civil War, Kansas City grew rapidly, thanks to its strategic location on the Missouri River. The city became a major center of the cattle trade, and was also home to a large number of breweries and distilleries. In 1889, the Kansas City Stockyards were established, further solidifying the city’s reputation as a key livestock market.
The early 20th century was a period of great growth for Kansas City. The city’s population doubled between 1900 and 1910, and continued to grow rapidly in the following decades. During World War II, Kansas City was an important center of war production, with several major defense plants located in the city.
