History of Stratford

The Stratford Historical Society was organized in 1895 by a group of local citizens who recognized the need to preserve the history of the town. The Society is one of the oldest local historical organizations in Connecticut, and has been collecting and preserving Stratford’s history for over 120 years.

The Stratford Historical Society owns and operates two historic sites in Stratford: the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Barn and the General David Humphreys House. The Society also offers a variety of educational programs and events throughout the year, and maintains a research library and archival collection that is open to the public.

The mission of the Stratford Historical Society is to promote the study and appreciation of Stratford’s history and culture through the preservation and interpretation of its historic sites and collections.
