History of Park Ridge

Incorporated as a village in 1873 and as a city in 1916, Park Ridge is a picturesque suburb of Chicago. The city’s founders, George Swift and John C. Brown, were looking for a location that would provide a haven from the bustle of the city. They found their ideal spot on a ridge of land that offered a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The settlers named the community Park Ridge because of its location and beautiful views.

The first resident of Park Ridge was a man named Joseph Sears. He built the first house in the city in 1854. Sears also established the first store and post office in Park Ridge. The village grew slowly at first, but began to experience significant growth in the years after the Civil War.

The population of Park Ridge increased rapidly in the early twentieth century. This was due in part to the construction of the Ravenswood branch of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway in 1911. The Ravenswood line made Park Ridge more accessible to commuters, and many people moved to the suburb in order to take advantage of the new transportation option.

During the Second World War, Park Ridge was home to a military training facility called Camp Grant. After the war, the camp was converted into a Veterans Administration hospital. The hospital was closed in the late 1990s, and the property was redeveloped into a residential community.

Today, Park Ridge is a thriving community with a population of over 37,000 people. The city is known for its excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, and stunning views. Park Ridge is an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family.
