Ysleta is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, situated on the west bank of the Rio Grande. As of the 2010 census, the population was 20,874. Ysleta is part of the El Paso Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Ysleta was founded in 1682 by the Spanish as a mission to the Tigua Indian tribe. The name Ysleta is derived from San Pablo de Ysleta, the name of the Tigua village that the Spaniards seeking refuge had originally settled. The suffix leta is a Spanish diminutive.
When the missions were secularized in 1773, Ysleta became a pueblo of the Spanish Crown. It was one of the first communities in Texas to rebel against the Mexican government during the Texas Revolution.
After the war, Ysleta was annexed by the Republic of Texas. It was incorporared as a town in 1848 and granted a city charter in 1881.
Ysleta remained a largely independent community until it was annexed by the rapidly growing city of El Paso in 1962.
Today, Ysleta is a vibrant, ethnically diverse community with a rich history. It is home to the Ysleta Independent School District, the oldest school district in Texas. It is also home to the Tigua Indian tribe, whose Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is the only federally recognized tribe in Texas.
The Tigua tribe operates the Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, which hosts a variety of musical and cultural events. The Tiguas also operate a Native American casino, the Speaking Rock Casino, which is located on the site of the historic Tigua mission.

The mission was founded in 1682 by Spanish settlers fleeing the Pueblo Revolt in presentday New Mexico. The mission and its associated buildings are now a National Historic Landmark and a popular tourist destination.

The Tigua are the only federally recognized tribe in Texas, and the Cultural Center is a great place to learn about their history and culture. History of Ysleta
Ysleta is a historic city located in El Paso County, Texas. It is one of the oldest settlements in the state, and has a long and rich history dating back to the Spanish colonial era.
Ysleta was established in 1680 by Spanish settlers who were fleeing the Pueblo Revolt in New Mexico. The settlers established a community near the confluence of the Rio Grande and Tigris Rivers, and called it San Antonio de las Alazanas.
The small settlement soon attracted the attention of the local Apache and Comanche tribes, who raided it several times. In1751, the Apache again attacked Ysleta, and this time they succeeded in burning the settlement to the ground.
Despite this setback, the Spanish settlers rebuilt Ysleta and it soon became an important stop on the Camino Real, the trade route between Mexico and New Mexico.
During the Mexican War of Independence, Ysleta served as a base for the rebel army led by Jose Maria Morelos. In 1821, after Mexico achieved independence from Spain, the town became part of the new country.
During the MexicanAmerican War, Ysleta was once again burned to the ground, this time by American troops. However, the town was quickly rebuilt and prospered in the ensuing years.
In 1848, the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which included a provision that allowed the residents of Ysleta to keep their Mexican citizenship and their property rights. This made Ysleta one of the only places in the United States where Mexican citizens were allowed to remain after the war.
Today, Ysleta is a thriving community with a rich history and culture. It is home to several historical landmarks and sites, and is considered one of the most culturally significant cities in the American Southwest.
