Wyandotte is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 25,883 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth largest city in Wayne County and the 18th largest city in Michigan by population. Wyandotte is located in southeastern Michigan, approximately 11 miles (18 km) south of Detroit on the Detroit River, and is part of the collection of communities known as Downriver. Since the city’s incorporation in 1866, Wyandotte has developed a mixed commercial and residential community.
Wyandotte is bounded by Southgate and Lincoln Park to the north, Riverview to the east, Trenton to the south, and Ecorse to the west.
The city is served by Interstate 75 (the Fisher Freeway) and US 24 (Fort Street). The latter connects it with the Ambassador Bridge to Canada. Michigan Avenue is the main eastwest thoroughfare, while Biddle Avenue/Eureka Road is the main northsouth thoroughfare. These two thoroughfares cross in downtown Wyandotte at Superior Boulevard and Oak Street.
The city has a public beach on the Detroit River called Wyandotte Municipal Park. It also has a public marina and boat launch.
The stated goal of the Wyandotte Downtown Development Authority is to create a vibrant downtown that is the social and economic heart of the city. Many of the structures in the downtown area are on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district is roughly bounded by Eureka Road, Biddle Avenue, Maple Street, and sup Woodward Avenue. Wyandotte is Michigan’s most populous city with a majority black population, and is one of only four Michigan cities (the others being Detroit, Highland Park, and Benton Harbor) where African Americans make up the majority of the populace. The city has an area of 4.71 square miles (12.2 km2).
The city was incorporated as a village in 1854 and as a city in 1866. It annexed the adjacent Village of Trenton in 1922. Wyandotte is named after the Wyandot Indians.

The Wyandot Native Americans had been living in the area for centuries before the Europeans arrived. In 1833, the federally recognized tribal government was relocated to Kansas. In 1837, the Wyandots negotiated a treaty with the United States government to cede their lands in Michigan and Ohio.
