History of Wickford
The village of Wickford was founded in 1636 by a group of Puritans from Newport, Rhode Island. They named the area after their home town in England. The settlers farmlands and built homes along the Narragansett Bay. Wickford became an important trading center for the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. The village was attacked by theBritish during the American Revolution.
