Weston was named in honor of Edward Weston, one of the founders of the Boston and Florida Land Company. He established the city’s first post office.

History of Weston
Weston, West Virginia, is a city located in Lewis County. The population was 2,317 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lewis County. The city was founded in 1818 and named for James Weston, a Virginia lawmaker.
Weston is located at the confluence of the Buckhannon and West Fork Rivers. The Buckhannon River runs through the center of the city. Weston is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. The city is situated at an elevation of 1,205 feet (368 m) above sea level.
The first settlers of European descent in the area were Samuel and Nancy Jackson, who arrived in 1769. The first permanent settlement in the area was established in 1792 by Jacob and Margaret Hinkle. The city of Weston was chartered in 1818. The city was named for James Weston, a Virginia lawmaker.
