West Seneca is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 44,711 at the 2010 census. It is separate from the city of Buffalo and the inner ring of suburbs. West Seneca is the second largest suburb of Buffalo. Incorporated in 1854 as the Village of Seneca, inthe Town of West Seneca was established in 1892. The town is home to the Buffalo Saints Soccer Club, one of the most successful soccer clubs in Upstate New York.
The name “West Seneca” comes from the Seneca Nation of Indians. The Tonawanda Band of Seneca Indians, one of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy is based in the town.
The town’s earliest known resident was Ninho de Anza, who established a homestead near the presentday intersection of Seneca and Orchard Park roads. West Seneca has a diverse history, with many different ethnic and religious groups calling it home. Some of the first settlers were of German descent. The town also has a large Irish population.
In more recent history, the town has seen an influx of people from the inner city of Buffalo. This is due to the town’s affordable housing and its proximity to Buffalo.

History of West Seneca
The city of West Seneca is located in the western part of New York state, and has a long and interesting history. The first settlers of the area were the Seneca people, who were part of the Iroquois Nation. The Seneca were a peaceful people who lived off the land, and their villages were located along the Niagara River. The Seneca were eventually pushed out of the area by the Mohawk people, who were also part of the Iroquois Nation. The Mohawk were a warlike people, and their villages were located along the Mohawk River. The Mohawk and the Seneca were at war for many years, and the Seneca were eventually defeated.
The first European settlers to the area were the Dutch, who built a fort near presentday Albany. The Dutch were soon pushed out of the area by the English, who established the colony of New York. The English built a fort at presentday Buffalo, and the area around the fort became known as Buffalo Township. West Seneca was originally part of Buffalo Township, but was later divided off into its own township.
West Seneca experienced rapid growth in the 19th century, due to the construction of the Erie Canal. The Erie Canal allowed goods and people to travel from the East Coast to the Midwest, and many businesses and industries were established in West Seneca.
