Toccoa is a city located in the northeastern part of Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 8,491. It is the county seat of Stephens County. Toccoa is the home of Toccoa Falls College, and the site of the Chickamauga Dam.
The Chickamauga Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Tennessee River in the northwestern corner of Georgia. The dam is named after the Battle of Chickamauga which took place nearby during the American Civil War. The dam impounds the Chickamauga Lake, which extends 64 miles upstream to Watts Bar Dam. The dam was completed in 1940 and its power plant began operating in 1942. The dam and power plant are owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, a US government agency created in 1933 to provide electricity to the rural Tennessee Valley.
The Toccoa Falls are located on the campus of Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia. The falls are186 feet high and are one of the tallest singledrop waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. A trail leads from the bottom of the falls to the top, where there is an observation deck. The falls and surrounding area are open to the public and there is no admission fee.

History of Toccoa
The city of Toccoa is located in Stephens County, Georgia, in the northeastern part of the state. The city is situated on the Tugaloo River, which is a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. The name “Toccoa” is derived from the Cherokee word for “place of the cane,” and the city is known for its production of cane syrup.
The area that is now Toccoa was first settled by Europeans in the late 18th century, when the land was ceded to the United States by the Creek Nation in the aftermath of the Revolutionary War. The first settlers in the area were of ScotsIrish descent, and many of the city’s streets and landmarks are named after Scottish families.
Toccoa was officially incorporated as a city in 1873, and in the following years, the city experienced a period of rapid growth. The arrival of the Atlanta and Charlotte Air Line Railway in the 1880s made Toccoa a hub for trade and commerce, and the city’s population swelled.
