History of Ticonderoga
The town of Ticonderoga is located in upstate New York near the Vermont border. The town was originally settled by the French in the 1700s and was known as Fort Carillon. The fort was built to protect the nearby town of Fort St. Frederic from the British. In 1758, the British captured the fort during the Seven Years’ War and renamed it Fort Ticonderoga.
