Tarpon Springs is located in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and has a population of just over 24,000. The city is rich in history and was first settled by the Tocobaga Native Americans. The name Tarpon Springs comes from the large number of tarpon fish that were found in the nearby rivers and springs. The Tocobaga people built large mounds where they buried their dead and this is now a part of the Anclote River Park.
In the early 1800s, the Spanish began to settle in the area and developed a thriving fishing industry.
