Spanish Fork is a city located in Utah Valley in the Wasatch range, between Provo and Nephi. The population was 36,956 at the 2010 census. The city of Spanish Fork was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1851 near the present site of Spanish Fork River. They named it Spanish Fork because of the large amount of Spanish Fork River running through the valley.
The scenery in Spanish Fork is some of the best in Utah. The Spanish Fork River runs through the middle of town and there are several parks and recreation areas along its banks. The Spanish Fork Canyon Scenic Byway provides stunning views of the canyon and the river.

History of Spanish Fork
Spanish Fork is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Provo–Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 36,956 at the 2010 census, making it the fourth largest city in Utah County.
The area that is now Spanish Fork was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1851. A fort was built here, known as the Packsaddle Fort. It was used as a resting place for pioneer wagon teams headed west.
In 1852, a group of Mormons from Spanish Fork settled in what is now Payson, Utah. This was the first permanent settlement in what is now Utah County outside of the Salt Lake Valley. It was also the first white settlement in the Tonto Basin area of central Arizona.
Spanish Fork was incorporated as a city in 1855. The first city officers were elected in March 1856. John S. Tanner was elected as the first mayor.
Spanish Fork grew rapidly as a farming community. It soon became an important cattleraising center. It also became known for its orchards and sugar beet production.
In 1861, the Pony Express came through Spanish Fork. A replica of the Pony Express station is now located in Pioneer Park.
The Utah Central Railroad arrived in 1869. This helped Spanish Fork to become an important transportation hub.
In 1916, Spanish Fork High School was built. It is now home to the Nebo School District offices.
Spanish Fork was hit hard by the Great Depression. Many businesses closed and farmers struggled. things began to improve in the late 1930s with the construction of the Spanish Fork Power Plant and the opening of the Soldier Summit coal mines.
The population of Spanish Fork began to grow rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s. Several new subdivisions were built during this time.
Spanish Fork celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2001. The city has continued to grow in recent years. Several new schools and parks have been built.
