Smith Center is a city in northern Kansas, United States. The city is the county seat of Smith County. It is named after Colonel Cyrus K. Holliday, one of the founders of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The population was 2,651 at the 2010 census.

The town was founded on April 19, 1857, and named after Colonel Cyrus K. Holliday, one of the founders of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Holliday platted the town and donated the land for the county courthouse. The first post office in Smith Center was established in May 1857.

In the early 1900s, the city became known as the “Cow Capital of the World” because of the large number of cattle that were shipped from Smith Center to the eastern markets. The city was also home to the world’s largest Hereford cattle ranch, the Pitchfork Ranch.

The city has a number of historic buildings, including the Cyrus K. Holliday House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Holliday Theater, which was built in 1916 and is now used as a community theater. The Smith County Historic Museum is housed in the former Rock Island Railroad depot.

Smith Center is the home of the Smith Center High School Redmen, who have won numerous state championships in basketball and football. The city is also home to the Smith Center Fairgrounds, which hosts the annual Smith County Fair.

Smith Center is a city located in the northern part of Webster County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Webster County.

The city was founded in 1873 when the Webster County seat was relocate from Guide Rock. The new town was named after W. H. Smith, a railroad official. The first county courthouse was built in 1874.

The city is home to the Smith Center Redmen, a high school known for its basketball team which has won nine state championships, most recently in 2016.

The economy of Smith Center is based on agriculture, with wheat, corn, and soybeans being the major crops. There are also several hog farms in the area.
