History of Seaside

Seaside is a historic city located on the Florida panhandle, in the United States. The city is situated along the Gulf of Mexico and has a population of just over 12,000 people. Seaside was founded in 1869 and was originally developed as a resort town. However, the city’s economy is now largely based on tourism and it is a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Seaside has a long and rich history. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Seminole and Creek people. In the early 1800s, the United States government forcibly removed the Native American tribes from the Southeast and relocated them to Oklahoma. This process, known as the Trail of Tears, was devastating for the Native American people.

After the removal of the Native American tribes, white settlers began to move into the area. Seaside was founded in 1869 by William H. Allison and George F. Mira. The two men developed the town as a resort destination for wealthy Americans. Seaside was built on a strictgrid system and features a number of beautiful Victorianstyle homes and buildings.

The city’s economy was largely based on tourism in its early years. However, Seaside began to decline in the early 1900s, as the popularity of Florida’s beaches grew. Seaside’s decline was exacerbated by a number of devastating hurricanes, including hurricane Ivan in 2004.

In recent years, Seaside has undergone a renaissance. The city has been featured in a number of popular films and television shows, including The Truman Show and The West Wing. The city has also become a popular destination for artists and musicians. Today, Seaside is once again a thriving community and an important part of Florida’s history.
