The first European settlers arrived in the early 1840s, and the city was officially incorporated in 1909. Roseville’s economy is largely driven by the retail and healthcare industries. Native Americans have lived in the Roseville area for over 10,000 years. The Maidu and Nisenan tribes were the first known inhabitants of the area. The Maidu were huntergatherers who lived in small villages near streams and lakes. The Nisenan were also huntergatherers, but they lived in larger villages and were more settled than the Maidu. Both tribes hunted game, fished, gathered acorns and other nuts, and gathered plants for medicine and food.
