History of Pryor
Pryor Creek is a city in Mayes County, Oklahoma, United States. The city was founded as Tulsa’s first satellite city in 1971. It is named for early settler Nathan Pryor. The city is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area, with a population of 9,527 at the 2010 census.
Pryor Creek is located at 36°21′23″N 95°25′35″W (36.356303, 95.426376). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.5 square miles (32.3 km2), of which 12.4 square miles (32.1 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.64%) is water.
As of the 2010 census, there were 9,527 people, 3,379 households, and 2,446 families residing in the city. The population density was 768.3 inhabitants per square mile (297.1/km2). There were 3,741 housing units at an average density of 302.5 per square mile (116.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 74.7% White, 5.4% African American, 13.8% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 1.2% from other races, and 4.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
