Prichard is a city in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. The city is located on a bluff overlooking the Mobile River, south of downtown Mobile. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 22,659.

The first inhabitants of the area were the Creek Indians. They were eventually replaced by the Choctaw Indians. The name Prichard is derived from French colonists who settled in the area in 1763 and named it after Charles Prichard, a British surveyor.

In 1813, the Battle of Mobile Bay occurred just north of presentday Prichard. During the Civil War, the Union Army occupied Mobile Bay and the city of Mobile. Prichard became a Union stronghold and the site of a major prisoner of war camp.

After the war, the city began to grow rapidly. The first school was built in 1866 and the first church was built in 1867. By the early 1900s, Prichard had become a thriving community with a population of over 5,000.

The city continued to grow throughout the twentieth century. In the 1960s, the city annexed the nearby community of Academy Park. Today, Prichard is a bustling city with a diverse population.
