Plano, Texas is a city in the US state of Texas, located approximately 20 miles north of downtown Dallas. The city has a population of 269,776, making it the ninthlargest city in the state of Texas and the 70thmost populous city in the United States. Plano is a part of the DallasFort Worth metropolitan area, which is the fourthlargest metropolitan area in the United States.
The city of Plano was founded in 1846 by William S. Peters, a businessman from Kentucky. Peters named the city after his home state of Kentucky. Plano was incorporated as a city in 1873. The city’s population grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reaching a peak of over 1,000 residents in the 1920s.
During World War II, Plano was home to a LockheedMartin aircraft manufacturing plant. After the war, the city’s population declined due to the relocation of the aircraft plant to other parts of the country. However, the city’s population began to grow again in the 1970s, reaching its current level of over 269,000 residents.
