History of Phoenix
The history of Phoenix, Arizona is rich and diverse. First inhabited by the Hohokam people centuries ago, the city has seen a number of different cultures and groups pass through over the years. From the Spanish explorers who first arrived in the area in the 1500s, to the American troops who occupied the city during the Civil War, Phoenix has been witness to some of the most pivotal moments in American history.
The Hohokam people were the first to settle in the area that would become Phoenix, and they did so around 300 BCE. The Hohokam were a peaceful and industrious people, and they built a thriving society in the desert.
