History of Perranzabuloe
The history of Perranzabuloe is inextricably linked with that of its famous church, which stands on a hill above the village. The church is dedicated to St. Piran, the patron saint of Cornwall, and was probably founded in the 6th century.
There is evidence of an earlier church on the site, however, in the form of a 9thcentury cross shaft which was reused in the building of the present day tower. The rest of the church dates from the 12th and 13th centuries, and it is likely that the building we see today is very similar to the one that stood here 800 years ago.
