History of Palm Bay
Palm Bay was officially founded on April 23, 1885. A group of investors from Boston who had formed the Yankee Consumers Company bought the site for $32,000. The area was sparsely inhabited at the time and consisted mostly of small farms. The investors laid out streets, built a store and a wharf, and dammed Turkey Creek to form a lake which they used as a water source for their new community.
The city was incorporated in 1915 and grew steadily throughout the mid20th century. The population exploded in the 1970s and 1980s as the city became a bedroom community for the growing Orlando metropolitan area. Today, the city is home to over 110,000 people.
