The main attraction in Pagosa Springs is its hot springs. There are several different hot springs locations around town, including The Springs Resort and Spa, which has 26 different hot springs pools. The water in the springs comes from the San Juan Mountains, and is heated by a nearby geothermal vent. The springs range in temperature from 74 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit (23 to 50 degrees Celsius).

History of Pagosa Springs
Pagosa Springs is a city in Archuleta County, Colorado, United States. The city is known for its hot springs, as its name derives from the Southern Ute word corresponding to the medicinal waters found there. As of the 2010 census, Pagosa Springs had a population of 1,766 people.
The site of Pagosa Springs was first inhabited by the Anasazi and Fremont peoples. The Ute people later inherited the land. The Utes dominated the area until the late 19th century. In 1879, the area was surveyed by General William Jackson Palmer and renamed Pagosa Springs after the nearby hot springs.
The hot springs were originally used by the Ute people for their medicinal properties. In 1842, trapper Isaac Cooper discovered the hot springs while hunting. Cooper carved his initials into a tree nearby, and word of the springs soon spread. In 1860, Dave Johnson built the first crude structure over the springs.
Pagosa Springs became a popular destination for vagabonds, outlaws, and adventurers in the late 1800s. The town was full of gunslingers and saloons. In 1894, a shootout between two rivalmerchants ended with one man dead and the other severely wounded. The killer was never apprehended.
In 1896, Pagosa Springs was incorporated as a town. The first mayor was Jesse Black, who also owned the Pagosa Springs Lumber Company. The lumber company supplied material for many of the buildings in Pagosa Springs, including the San Juan Hospital (now known as the Rohrbach House), which was built in 1898.
The advent of the automobile brought more tourists to Pagosa Springs, and the streets were soon lined with hotels and businesses catering to visitors. In 1909, the San Juan Volunteer Fire Department was formed.
The hot springs continued to be a draw for tourists, and in 1920, the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce was formed to promote the town. The chamber hired a group of actors to perform a play about the history of the Ute people for tourists. The play was a success, and for many years, Pagosa Springs was known as the “Ute Capital of the World.”
Pagosa Springs grew steadily throughout the 20th century. In the 1970s, the city began to experience an influx of retirees. In the 1980s, several networking companies chose Pagosa Springs as their base of operations, attracted by the city’s highspeed internet access.
