New Mills is a town in Derbyshire, England, on the River Goyt, which is a tributary of the River Derwent. The town is about 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Stockport and 7 miles (11.3 km) east of Buxton.
The town developed following the establishment of two corn mills on the River Goyt, and grew rapidly in the 19th century. It was served by the Peak Forest Canal and the Marple aqueduct brought water from the Peak Forest Reservoir, both of which have been restored. New Mills has a heritage centre and an art gallery.
There are many interesting places to see in New Mills. The Torrs is a 70foot (21 m) deep gorge, carved by the River Goyt. The Millennium Walkway runs along the top of the gorge, giving views of the river, mills and landscapes. The Town Hall onMarket Street was built in 1878, and has a clock tower with four faces.
