There’s even a lifesize cow statue named “Udderly Swiss” that greeted us as we drove into town!

One of the best things about vacationing in New Glarus is the abundance of outdoor activities. In the warmer months, you can go hiking, biking, or horseback riding on the numerous trails in the area. Or take a dip in one of the many springsfed swimming holes.

Visit the New Glarus Woods State Park

Just a short drive from the village, the New Glarus Woods State Park is a great place to spend a day outdoors. The park has over 15 miles of hiking trails, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. In the winter, the park’s trails are open for crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing.

Or take a drive down the scenic Sugar River State Trail. This 22mile railtrail winds its way through the countryside, offering gorgeous views of the river and farmland. The trail is open for hiking, biking, and horseback riding in the summer and crosscountry skiing in the winter.
