Monett is located in southwest Missouri on US Highway 60, approximately 35 miles (56 km) east of Springfield. It is also about 15 miles (24 km) west of Cassville and 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Aurora.

History of Monett
Monett is a city in Barry County, Missouri, United States. The population was 11,948 at the 2010 census. Monett is located in the Ozarks on U.S. Route 60 approximately 25 miles (40 km) east of Joplin.
The first settlers in the Monett area were subsistence farmers who homesteaded before the Civil War. They grew crops such as oats, wheat, flax and corn, and raised livestock. The first commercial venture in the area was a gristmill which was built in 1856. The mill was powered by water from Sugar Creek.
The first post office in Monett was established in 1858. The city was officially platted in 1871. The city was named for Monett Tharp, who owned the land on which the city was platted.
The Civil War impacted the life in Monett and the surrounding area. Guerrilla warfare was common in the Ozarks during the war. In September 1861, a group of Union soldiers were ambushed and killed near Monett by a group of Confederate guerrillas. In August 1862, Confederate Colonel John T. Coffee led 1,200 troops through the Monett area on their way to raid Lawrence, Kansas.
Monett was incorporated as a city in 1887. The city continued to grow throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1901, the Kansas City Southern Railway built a branch line from Pierce City to Monett. This helped to spur economic growth in the area.
The arrival of the railway also brought an influx of new settlers, many of whom were from Europe. This increased the diversity of the city. Monett became known as a “melting pot” because of the many different cultures represented.
