Marlow is a town and civil parish within Wycombe district in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located on the River Thames, 4mi south of High Wycombe, 5mi west of Maidenhead and 33mi west of central London. At the 2011 Census, Marlow had a population of 14,068.
Marlow is recorded in the Domesday Book as Merlaue. Magna Carta was sealed at Marlow on 15 June 1215.
The town subsequently prospered as a rivertrade centre, particularly for wheat. It was also a convenient restingpoint for royal officials and armies going to and from Westminster and Windsor Castle. The George Hotel, given Marlow’s royal connections, appears in contemporary prints and 19thcentury photographs, but was demolished in 1873.
