Marietta is a city in United States and the county seat of Cobb County, Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 56,579. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city’s population to be 58,752 as of 2019. It is one of the Atlanta metropolitan area’s largest suburbs and is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northwest of downtown Atlanta.
Marietta was founded in 1834 by a man named Luther Ross. The city was named after his wife, Mary. It was incorporated as a city in 1852. Marietta is the site of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, which took place on June 27, 1864, during the American Civil War.
The historic Marietta Square is located in the downtown area and features a number of shops and restaurants. The Marietta Museum of History is also located downtown and chronicles the city’s history.
