Sights in Loveland
Loveland is located in Larimer County, Colorado and is a Home Rule Municipality. The city was founded in 1866, and is the second most populous city in Larimer County after Fort Collins, which is the county seat. The city has an estimated population of 76,651, according to the 2019 census. The city covers an area of 37.3 square miles (96.3 km2).
The Rocky Mountains loom large over the city, providing a stunning backdrop to the town. The Big Thompson River flows through the city, and is a popular spot for fishing, tubing, and kayaking. The city has more than 50 parks, and is home to the Devil’s Backbone Open Space, a favorite hiking spot for locals.

History of Loveland
The first settlers in the area which is now Loveland were Captain Clark Alden and Mary Elizabeth Meek. They arrived in the summer of 1861. Captain Alden built the first log cabin in the area on what is now West First Street. Two years later, in 1863, Loveland was founded as a stage coach stop along the route between Fort Collins and Laramie, Wyoming. It was named for Sergeant William A. Loveland of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, who was killed in action during the Civil War.
The City of Loveland was incorporated in 1866. The first mayor was J.C. Goudy and the first city clerk was W.E. Ross. The population of the city was just over 200 at that time.
In 1867, the Colorado Central Railroad came through Loveland, bringing even more settlers and businesses to the area. The town continued to grow and by 1890 the population had reached 1,000.
In 1955, the Big Thompson floods wreaked havoc on the city and seriously damaged several businesses and homes. However, the community quickly rebounded and within a few years had fully recovered.
Today, Loveland is a thriving city with a population of over 75,000. It is home to many businesses, parks, and other amenities and is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
