Longmont is a city located in Boulder County, Colorado, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 86,270, making it the 13th most populous city in the state of Colorado. Kodak, as well as Spyderco, were founded here. Longmont is the home of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
The site of Longmont was first inhabited by Native Americans of the Ute Tribe. The city of Longmont was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Chicago, Illinois. Originally called the ChicagoColorado Colony, the men who founded it drafted a city plan and parcels of land to sell to new settlers. As the first planned community in Boulder County, the city was built on a grid system. The streets were wide and lined with trees.
