Wildwood is a city in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. It is the county seat of Cape May County. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city’s population was 5,325, reflecting a decline of 400 (−7.0%) from the 5,725 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn declined by 1,125 (−16.5%) from the 6,850 counted in the 1990 Census.
The city’s nickname, “America’s Greatest Family Resort”, refers to the many summer vacationers who visit the city, especially families with children. Wildwood is also known as a destination for its boardwalk, water parks, and obvious concentration of 1950s architecture.

History of Long Beach (New Jersey)
Before Europeans arrived, the area now known as Long Beach was inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The Lenape were a huntergatherer society and their villages were typically small. They were nomadic, moving to different areas of the region to take advantage of the resources that were available.
The first European to set foot in the area was Giovanni da Verrazzano, an Italian explorer who sailed up the coast of North America in 1524. Verrazzano noted the abundant resources in the area and the fact that it was inhabited by the Lenape.
In 1609, another Italian explorer, Henry Hudson, sailed up the coast and explored the area around what is now New York City. Hudson did not encounter any Lenape in the area, but he did note the abundance of fish and game.
In 1614, the Dutch explorer Adriaen Block sailed up the coast and explored the area around presentday Long Island. He encountered the Lenape and noted the abundance of resources in the area.
The Dutch established a small settlement on Manhattan in 1624 and began to colonize the area. In 1640, they established a trading post on presentday Governors Island. The Dutch expanded their settlements up the Hudson River, establishing Albany in 1614 and Fort Orange (presentday Albany) in 1624.
In 1664, the English conquered the Dutch colony of New Netherland and renamed it New York. The English expanded their settlements down the Hudson River and into presentday Long Island.
