Kennebunkport is a city in York County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,474 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. Kennebunkport has a reputation as a summer colony and tourist destination. It is one of the wealthiest communities in the state of Maine.

History of Kennebunkport
Kennebunkport is a city in Maine, United States. The head of the Kennebunk River estuary, the town is situated beside the Atlantic Ocean. Kennebunkport and neighboring Kennebunk recorded a population of 3,474 people in the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area.
The first European settlement in the area was established by the English in 1623. The town was incorporated in 1663. In 1769, it became the district town for York County, which it remained until 1820 when Cumberland County was created. Historically a shipbuilding and fishing village, for well over a century it was home to the Five Plus Two extremely wealthy group of investors. They built many estate homes along the coastline, some of which are still standing. The group’s ultimate demise came about due to just one of the members, George Wright, who invested in a failing woolen mill in Saco. All of the others Investment Partners wisely pulled out, but Wright instead put all of the Five Plus Two money into the Saco mill, which quickly went bankrupt.
During the War of 1812,Kennebunkport was burning ships to prevent them from being captured by the British. The Kennebunkport Flag is flown in town in honor of this event.
