History of Jackson (Michigan)

Jackson is a city in the south central region of the US state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Jackson County. The city is located along Interstate 94 (I94) in the central portion of the state, about 40 miles (64 km) west of Ann Arbor and 35 miles (56 km) south of Lansing. The population was 33,534 at the 2010 census. it was founded in 1829 and named after President Andrew Jackson.

Jackson is a culturally diverse city with a strong focus on the arts. The city has two professional orchestras, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra and the Camerata Musica, as well as the Cascade Falls Park which is the largest free falls in the state.
