History of Henderson (North Carolina)
Henderson, North Carolina is a small city located in the northern part of the state. The city has a population of just over 12,000 people and is the county seat of Vance County. The city was founded in 1782 and was named after Revolutionary War General Richard Henderson.
The area that is now Henderson was originally inhabited by the Occaneechi Native Americans. European settlement of the area began in the late 17th century and the city was officially founded in 1782.
