History of Hancock
Hancock is a city in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The city was settled in 1848 by John Hancock and was initially called Shakopee. In 1850, the city was renamed to Hancock in honor of its founder. The city was incorporated as a village in 1883 and as a city in 1905.
