History of Galveston
Galveston is a historic city located on Galveston Island in the southeastern part of Texas. Founded in 1836 by investors from New York, Galveston was initially developed as a planned community designed to attract settlers and promote trade. The city rapidly rose to prominence as a leading port and center of commerce, but its fortunes were dealt a blow in 1900 when it was struck by a powerful hurricane that killed thousands of people and left much of the city in ruins.
Despite the setback, Galveston managed to rebuild and regain its status as a thriving metropolis. Today, the city is home to a thriving tourism industry, a vibrant downtown area, and a rich history that is celebrated by residents and visitors alike.
